Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Tongs
  • Small bowl
  • Paper towels
  • Instant-read thermometer

Ingredients

  • 4 skin-on salmon fillets, about 1 inch thick (6 ounces each)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • Lemon wedges and fresh dill, for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F for 3 to 4 minutes until hot.
  • Pat the salmon fillets completely dry on both sides with paper towels. This is the key to crispy, golden edges.
  • Drizzle both sides with oil, then sprinkle with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Rub gently to coat.
  • Place the fillets skin-side down in the air fryer basket, leaving at least 1 inch of space between each. Cook at 400°F for 7 to 9 minutes for 1-inch-thick fillets, or longer for thicker fillets.
  • Check for doneness: the flesh should look opaque and flake easily with a fork. For medium, aim for 130°F; for well done, 145°F.
  • Let the salmon rest in the basket for 2 minutes before transferring, so the juices settle back into the fish.
  • Squeeze fresh lemon over the top, scatter with dill, and serve warm.

Notes

Pat the salmon completely dry before seasoning — it's the secret to crispy edges. If you prefer medium, cook to 130°F; for well done, aim for 145°F. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3 to 4 minutes. For the best texture, freeze raw seasoned fillets instead of cooked salmon. Try the Cajun seasoning swap or a maple-cayenne glaze in the last 3 minutes for a different spin.
